The political landscape in Scotland has become very confused. I don’t think the politicians are doing much to shine a light on reality. Clearly, a number of factions have arisen in the SNP and these factions can quickly become fractures which become splits. If that is allowed to happens we are up shit creek with no paddles, this is ‘a clear and present danger’ – devcon 101 if you will.
I am not about to analyse the political environment, I’m not sure any one person or group can, but I would like to offer some thinking that may provoke some serious questions; and oh boy do we need some serious questions asking and even more serious answers.
Since 1603 and later 1707 some Scots have felt a sense of loss. Down through the generations there has been peaks and troughs but recently we have had a series of peaks followed by peaks followed by peaks and it is almost within reach, just a few more inches … it is so frustrating and this is the point where the front runner loses focus and loses everything.
I could list dozens of signal points recently when our lack of Freedom as a country seemed unbearable. I am not going to list all my thoughts because everybody else will have their own list. OK, forced out of the EU against our democratic decision, the very hint of an S30 request being dismissed out of hand and the Moggumental reveal that Devolution was a hugh mistake; these are just a few obvious examples. However, I am going to suggest that Scotland is, today, in the greatest danger we have faced in 400 years – yes, 400+ years. Before you think I am being dramatic I would urge you to be patient and read on. I will keep this brief.
First, an analogy. Your spouse has a gambling addiction. This has eaten up the family reserves and you are living on your nerves, existing day to day hoping and praying that something will change. Without warning your spouse arrives with a big grin. Great news, look, I have managed to get half a dozen new credit cards.
Quick as a flash, you grab the kids, everything you can carry and get your ass out of there and along to the nearest solicitor to file for divorce. Your spouse has turned up with the nuclear options and the button in his hand. You are Scotland and your spouse is England – can I be clearer.
I say England because the UK is just a euphemism for England. Sunak has just revealed the worst financial crisis in history and we have not even been hit by English Brexit. England is facing total ruination and to make matters worse, our trump card, our Trump card turn out to be the Biden ticket and he is adamant about Ireland. His new Foreign Minister has stated openly that Brexit is an utter shambles. He has stated he will not even consider foreign trade agreements until his administration has fixed the mess they have inherited. This time I actually believe an incoming administration has inherited a big mess.
So here’s the thing, it is actually a a potential disaster, a disaster if England does not do something very big, very severe. But what options do they have? ONLY ONE.
Before all this happened, before Tory Ground Zero, England was in a world of debt, certainly in excess of £7 Trillion NPV probably closer to 8 going on 10 with Englexit.
So what is there one big option? This is the moment when that gambler is in so much debt, these shiny new cards have been max’d out and his creditors are about to throw him under a bus. He remembers he has access to his rich wife’s bank account… capice.
Guess who the players are? The rich wife is … yup … Scotland. Scotland with its oil, gas, water, free energy, fish, coal, food, whisky, tech etc etc.
England will move into hyper drive, warp factor 10 the asset strip. When they have stripped Scotland bear and they are left with a skeletal liability they will announce:
Thanks for the support?? you can have the S30. By the way, there is nothing, nada, left. Oh, and we have told our covert team in Scotland to support Indy, you gullible Scots idiots!
Can Scotland do anything to secure it’s position. Of course we can, if we are focused on the main objective; Restitution. If we are not focused we are dead in the water. If that happens Scotland ends up in dire straits and in that circumstance it becomes ‘survival of fittest‘. If we find ourselves in that position there is one certainty; the first casualties will be minority groups.
Tell the guy rearranging the deckchairs on the SNP Titanic to get back up to the watch tower because there are icebergs about!
