I think we all knew they would throw the kitchen sink at the YES campaign – but all we’ve had so far is the drain.
I hope we are all holding our nerve while the fear mongers thrash about like a salmon that just leapt onto the bank – dreadful pun!
The ‘highs’ and the ‘lows’ of the campaign so far have to be:
1. The canvassers on the doorstep. This has set the YES Campaign well apart from Better Together who have failed miserably on the doorsteps. This has denied them the opportunity to collect real accurate data, hence their reliance on media manipulation and the multitude of ‘1,000 person’ polls. Most importantly, the YES canvassers with their super-fast learned Scottish history, politics and economics have been able to offer the Undecided voters assistance in separating the wheat from the chaff – or should I say the facts from the lies and distortions.
2. Better Together have tried relentlessly to make the referendum a political argument and a personal crusade against Alex Salmond and the SNP. This has backfired on them as a very credible Blair Jenkins has reminded the public this is not about politics but vision and hope, and way bigger than the SNP. The YES campaign embraces Labour for Indy, Greens, Scottish Socialist, English for Yes, Academics for Yes, Women for Indy, Trade Unions for Indy, Asians for Yes, Business for Scotland, a multitude of youth groups like GenYes, countless independent non political groups, the list goes on and on and on. Better Together sport the Tories, Labour, Liberals, the Orange Order, the Media especially the Stasi BBC, in fact a perfect storm of Totalitarianism.
3. There is no denying that it has been difficult to persuade ordinary people that the scare stories on currency, the EU, Trident, the NHS, banks and businesses leaving etc etc are simply scare stories. BT has resorted to downright LIES to attempted to hammer home their threats. Sometimes it makes you cringe when you hear them trot out things like 8,000 jobs to go at Faslane, Standard Life to move south, Scots can’t use the pound, we’ll be thrown out of the EU and businesses, especially banks, are moving their headquarters to London. The despicable and unforgivable part of this is that ordinary decent folks have placed a level of trust and credibility on the ‘establishment’ and the ‘establishment’ has wiped their bottoms with that trust. Systematically, this has also backfired on them as credible sources have been so revulsed at these lies that many have come out publicly to disassociate themselves from these false claims and point out the truth.
4. As a consequence of the scare stories backfiring on Better Together, the YES Campaign is now able to get out the most important message of all…
…With a YES vote the people of Scotland will ALWAYS get the Government they vote for …
And with a constitution, that Government will be held to account if it falls short of its commitment to the electorate.
This fact alone, and in stark contrast to the empty pledge by David Cameron, means that …
… the people of Scotland really are ALL IN IT TOGETHER
5. The media have been relentless in their ‘Goebbels inspired’ campaign of magnifying the lies bigger and bigger until they became believable, – just as Goebbels predicted!
6. I have saved the best for last. The most disturbing and positively worrying aspect of the referendum. I think we all expected the campaign to get dirty. Britain did not build the biggest Empire ever by being ‘pussycats’ and playing fair. With great reluctance, Britain has gone the same way as all Empires go and watched their Empire decline to virtually nothing. The Empire is effectively gone. However, Britain still holds on to the Empire spirit and psyche probably best reflected in this tiny island having the 4th largest military budget on the planet. It will take some time for this behaviour to die out. I expected the UK Government and their establishment chums to resist every attempt to unsettle their ‘UK play area’ and the fabulous life style that affords them and theirs.
What I did not expect was the behaviour of the BBC; when Professor John Robertson sought and achieved funding for a specific 1 year study into the BBC’s ‘modus operandi’. When his academic study was completed the BBC tried everything in their powers to suppress his work and even resorted to bully by expressing their concerns to his Principal and ‘paymaster’ in an attempt the coerce the UWS to do their dirty work or even get him sacked. Thank heavens for democracy and fairness at the UWS without which this research would never have seen the light of day.
Watch Professor Robertson’s talk about the BBC and judge for yourself – [BBC control of the media]
On the subject of fairness, the first criticism leveled against Professor Robertson by the BBC was his failure to define ‘fairness’. Well, talk to me like I’m 4, but that is not the toughest question and I’m sure the Oxford dictionary could have assisted the BBC with that one?
The BBC stands accused!
One word of warning. Once you have watched the video and switch to the BBC {out of curiosity} you will see the BBC act out the blueprint of their behaviour to the letter. You will probably never see them in the same light again and you will DEMAND CHANGE
