Maybe I am being unkind but this is too important not to say.
Many pensioners voted for the Union in the referendum because they were afraid for their pensions, that was the big one. There were other reasons but that was the big one.
Stoked up by people like Murphy, the same pensioners are voting Labour because now Murphy and the Labour office in Scotland has ‘let it slip’ that the SNP intend to do away with their UK pension.
So here’s the thing. As we get older we slow down a bit, we get a bit stiffer and hair starts to grow in all the wrong places. Our brain cells have been dying off and as we get older and there are few cells left – we have become stupid. The last sentence of course is utter tripe.
The human brain contains about 86 Billion neurons or cells. From birth we lose about 7000 per day. By the time we reach 100 years we have lost about 250 Million cells or about 1/3 of 1% of our total cells. Furthermore, the really brainy ones amongst us use about 15% of our brain and using the principle of ‘use it or lose it’ the loss of 1/3 of 1% probably came from the pool of cells we weren’t using. And what is more, as we have seen so often and especially with stroke victims, when you lose cells other cells are capable of jumping in and taking a turn.
So, the people who use the ‘brain cells dying off’ excuse and reporters at the Daily Record are the ones on the accelerated cell loss programme.
Now, if I have not bored you to death or caused a spike in your brain cell depletion let’s bring this to a point. As we get older we do NOT suffer from failing brain capacity caused by natural brain cell depletion – that simple, it’s a falsey.
So when I read on Twitter about one old codger who was supporting Murphy because he was afraid the SNP were intending to scrap the UK pension and he felt that Murphy had all the answers, my first instinct was to have another go at Murphy. I did anyway, because he is an inveterate liar but that was not the point.
This old codger was playing the old man, I’m a victim and living in fear for my future, card. I don’t buy that for a minute. Unless he is suffering from some illness, and I am sure he wasn’t – this old b*gger was lying to his back teeth. He was a dyed in the wool, chromium plated Labour supporter without the courage to admit it. He was motivated by self interest and a total disregard for his fellow countrymen, his family, any children and grandchildren and blaming it on the SNP. He knew fine well that the UK pension or the UK pension right is a guarantee and it cannot be taken off us. What a cowardly excuse to make.
Sorry if I seem brutal but intelligence grows in humans until the day you die as does your life experiences. OLD AGE IS NO EXCUSE FOR STUPIDITY.
At say 70 you have 70 years of brain development and 70 years of life experience and that teaches us to be more than a little sceptical about information we are given. If he actually thought that his UK pension rights could be taken away, then he has been gifted with 86 Billion stupid cells.
During the referendum, knocking on doors I found in my area, Helensburgh, a lot of all codgers playing this poor me, victim role. It did not fool me. Their utterances and phoney beliefs were actually just a front for their hidden allegiances, their prejudices and their self interest. And here’s how I know this. Shoulder to shoulder with my canvassing colleagues in the area the average age in many groups was 70 plus. Did we pick the brightest and the best? No. These were ordinary decent people well into their retirement showing no sings of brain depletion, no signs of overt stupidity. They had managed to inform themselves on some recent politics, some Scottish history and together with their own experiences were on the campaign trail ready to explain or debate with anyone.
If any of us were victims, we were victims of the phoney claims made by so many selfish old codgers who would stand on their own doorsteps and lie to their back teeth.
Of course, this malaise was far more widespread. Right across the piece the No camp who are mainly the old Labour guard, now hell bent on defeating the SNP. These were the people who, in the referendum, believed and espoused the lies we were being told.
But I am not buying any of that. People have a duty to inform themselves. If you don’t know go an find out. But don’t make out you believe people like Murphy or Baillie of either of the Alexanders. If you haven’t worked out they are lying you are either lying to yourself or simply short changed on the 86 Billion cells.
Everyone knew that companies were not abandoning Scotland. They knew that Scotland would not be blocked from using the pound. They knew that Scotland would not be kicked out of the EU and sent to the back of the queue. If they really believed these pieces of tripe and were not able to inform themselves to the contrary then they really must have been suffering from brain cell depletion – and we know that is a great big fib – just like all the things they were saying.
So these were just convenient excuses to use as a front for their personal prejudices or higher allegiance to something else, some other society, certainly way above nationality and their country.
So, I am saying, don’t let us be fooled by the old codgers playing the stupid victim card. They know full well what the truth is. Look past the wrinkles and the blue rinse and see a deceitful, selfish, lying old codger. You won’t ever convince them because their prejudice is written through them like Blackpool rock. Walk away from them with a wry smile that says you will not allow yourself to be contaminated by their bitterness and twisted loyalties.
We need to keep our spirits up and not get pulled down or affected or feel a sense of sympathy for them – they are not worth it. They are prepared to give away their children and their grandchildren’s future in return for their selfishness and secret allegiance.
So, just to recap, people and especially old people play this mis-informed victim, the elderly card, the ‘I’m afraid’ card. Do buy it, don’t belief them. The only card they are playing is the liars card.
Finally, I am sure I am not breaking new ground with many people. I think most of us know all this already. But what I find very disturbing is that certain other people know about the behaviour and the prejudices of these people and they play them like musical instruments – because it is so easy to feed their prejudice and manipulate them.
Why else would we have Murphy spouting incredible lies on a routine basis. Why else would we have Brown spouting about a pledge that he had no authority to bring to the people of Scotland. Why do we have a band of inveterate liars like Baillie, Curran, Dugdale, the Alexanders, Carmichael, Mc Tiernan etc, etc, spouting their lies by the hour.
But, guess what? the people of Scotland, the true Scots are on to them. They will be dealt with at the ballot box.
My wish for the future is a simple but self fulfilling optimism. Scotland has it’s own, independent legal system. It is within its gift to pass a law
